Our History

After graduating with a B.Eng (Civil) degree from the University of Stellenbosch, Charl de Klerk started his professional career as an engineer in training with Sutherland and Associates where he gained invaluable design experience in multi-story concrete buildings for the private sector. He worked as a junior design engineer on various different projects which included the prestigious Cape Quarter Extensions; a mixed use development in Green Point featuring 11000 m² of additional retail and 8250 m² A-grade office space, as well as 950 parking bays in a 4-level underground parking garage.

In June 2009, Charl joined BVi Consulting Engineers as a junior project engineer where he gained further extensive experience in concrete and structural steel building structures for the private and public sector. He worked his way up to senior project engineer and registered as a professional engineer with ECSA in 2016. He was responsible for designing multiple structural steel roof and portal frame structures of which the most significant was the complex 9500 m² steel roofs for the Metropolitan Mall Extension in King William’s Town; comprising a multitude of large spanning and interdependent steel girder and roof trusses.

Charl joined Element Consulting Engineers in February 2017 as a senior project engineer where he was primarily involved with preliminary designs for multi-story concrete framed building projects that were still in the development stage as well as a ton of structural inspections and technical reports for various clients. He also had the opportunity to design and oversee the majority of construction to the new Carewell Day Hospital in Robertson before leaving the company due to retrenchments in July 2019.

CDK Consulting was born in 2020 during a global health pandemic SARS-COV-2 and unprecedented difficult financial times for individuals and companies alike. Charl decided it was time to take a leap of faith and be in charge of his own destiny where he can provide clients with reliable and value engineered consulting structural solutions while also spending more time with his growing family.
